Fighting spam with Gmail – Now easy ..!!

Gone are the days when you needed ten different email accounts for different purpose which include five for receiving spam mails .. I use Mailinator for receiving mails from dubious sources… As their tagline “Be anyone !” says it all .. You dont need to signup there .. Just give your mailinator address to any site that require “email activation” and check that account at Mailinator .. Easy as pie .. Anyways .. I know most of those reading this know all this already .. So I should begin why I wrote this one ..

What lacking from Mailinator was the ability to send messeges through it .. Suppose you want to communicate with someone and dont wanna share your email with him .. Traditionally what you will do is create another id at some email service and communicate through that address .. This goes back to age old checking ten accounts situation .. Well .. No more the same .. With GMail introducing customized From: address, the hole is now fixed ..       So how to do it ..? Simple .. Just goto your GMail accounts settings and configure customized From address .. Enter any Mailinator address there .. We use [email protected] for our example 😉 .. GMail will send a confirmation mail to that address to verify that such account does exist and you’ll be required to activate it .. Thats not a big problem .. Just open this (or whichever address you like) to confirm the account .. Open the link in verification mail and you are done .. Now whenever you compose mails in Gmail, you will get option to send the email as whichever addresss you want ..

You can use your Gmail address for your normal communication and Mailinator address for dubious contacts .. And this is not limited to just one account .. You can create as many as Mailinator accounts for such purpose .. 😀 …

Why use Mailinator you may ask .. Because of its features .. The best thing about Mailinator is RSS Support .. Just add this in your favorite RSS reader for checking your account :
http://mailinator.com/mailinator/rss.jsp?email=ReplaceWithYourUserName
With this, you will get instant notification when a new mail arrive in your mailbox .. And yeah … You can use alternative address for receiving mails too .. And if you are a Maxthon user, Just add http://mailinator.com/mailinator/maildir.jsp?email=%s in Search alias box 😉 .. What more you ask for ..       Any catch ..? Umm .. You will have to use the Web based interface of GMail for sending as different address (that is when you want to alternate between addresses) .. And as anyone can check the Mailinator account, this may create some troubles .. But thats what a disposable account is all about .. You dont share your private info on disposable accounts … Anyways .. Do tell me if you liked this one .. :)With this, you will get instant notification when a new mail arrive in your mailbox .. 1. I havent used mailinator like you have said but i have used it for several sites before.
But mailinator screws up the formatting of mails and often makes it unreadable.

  2. Nah .. Its a disposable email service .. Which normally you use when you wanna access a site which requires you to register and you are suspicious that this site will send you spams .. So you dont wanna give your primary address to it .. That is where Mailinator comes in .. You dont want eye candy stuff in it .. You just want an address on which you can recieve mail and reply to the confirmation mails sent by the website where you want to regiser ..

You should have a look at Mailinator Faqs for more .. 🙂

  3. Hahaha .. I dont understand what you mean by Swap links 😀 .. But still found your blog interesting .. You wanna have link on my blog ..? Gladly so .. 🙂 ..

    Take care ..)

for eg. I had used mailinator for registering onspeed but wht mailinator returned me was some wierd code that i cudnt decipher ( it wasnt even like html code..all messed up).
My main purpose of using mailinator is to get instant acces to porn sites which i am gonna forget about tommorow.

  6. Oops .. That was from my Maxthon’s old settings .. I added the correct address above though thats why I was wondering where I wrote checkmail.do 😀 … Anyways .. Me correcting that one ..

  7. And maybe I should explain it a bit more ..
In Maxthon you can configure customized search pages .. So to use that feature, do this :
Maxthon > Options > Maxthon Options > Search
Click on the + Button, In the name box, type Mailinator, in Alias type mlntr and in Engine, type http://mailinator.com/mailinator/maildir.jsp?email=%s
Now to check your mail, you’ll just enter this in Address bar :
    mlntr YourUserName
and press enter ..Voila ..! Here is your mailbox .. 😛

  8. hii..just wanted to ask.. do u always write only technical stuff..like gmail..YM..MSN..etc..

okay sorry..thank u so much for visiting my page.

take care…keep visitng my place 😉

    God bless u !

  9. Mailinator is a very good service but actually you don’t need to use it when you have GMail. (Well it depends on whom you are giving your id, for absolute privacy, mailinator is best, but then also any one is able to check that account).

A little known fact that gmail supports use of “+” in the id. So if your address is
    [email protected]

    Then
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

    etc
also works for you. That means you will receive mails sent to these ids too.

Now just add whatever filter you want to each of the ids, say all mails to [email protected] will be deleted, while all mails to [email protected] will be foreworded to your official id.

All this without need of each and every id that comes with “+” sign to be registered, is as good as mailinator, and also private protected by your password.

  10. well, that’s not all!! This new setting in GMail can also be used for checking multiple POP3 accounts & then sending email through them as well. This feature of checking external accounts has been in Yahoo! & Hotmail etc. but they require you to pay for sending email from those email addresses!!
Now its to be seen how they react to this feature!! 😉

  11. mailinator is nothing compared to http://www.Spaml.com Spaml offers the same service from an ajax based interface. it will copy your disposable email address to the computer memory automatically. u only have to press crtl v to get the email address. ( damn! its hard to expalin) visit their site and check it your self. i love it.

  12. I think the best disposable email provider is Soodonims.com

It can forward to your real email, can reply, able to create new addresses on the fly and able to auto destruct with your own rule.
